SUNDAY WORSHIP 10:30AM ONLINE & IN-PERSON

Vistor FAQ

What should I look for when I first arrive?

From Route 16, you will probably spot a bright banner hanging just below the rose window outside the building. Most visitors will enter from our parking lot and will find greeters waiting just inside the vestibule. If you are driving, know that we have reserved parking for first-time visitors, in addition to several handicapped spots and general parking to the left and at the back of the building.  We also have doors opening in the front Chapel facing the sidewalk and at the rear corner of our Parish Hall near the fire escape. Near the back door, we also have a bike rack for anyone choosing to cycle to the service. Feel free to use it.

How can I get there?

People can drive or bike or take public transportation to get to us, We are conveniently located only two blocks east from the Wellesley Hills train station, so within a comfortable walking distance. We also have volunteers who are willing to give local residents rides to and from our services should they need those.

What should I expect when I come on Sunday morning?

When you enter the building, you will be greeted, shown some of our literature, and offered a visitor form helping you connect with us. Children are invited to stay in the Sanctuary for the duration of the service. If any person needs to leave the service for any reason, they can use our Family Room just outside the Sanctuary as a place to relax. After the service, which usually last about an hour, everyone gathers in our Parish Hall for Fellowship Hour and refreshments.  We would be delighted if you join us for that. In nice weather, we have it outdoors.

Is there a dress code?

Come as you are most comfortable.  Some people attend services in casual attire or in business dress; others dress more formally for special occasions.  It is entirely up to you.

What if I decide that I would like to join as a member of the UU Wellesley Hills congregation?

Simply communicate your interest to our minister or any member of our Welcoming Committee. We routinely hold a “New to UU?” Question & Answer Session so that people feel well-informed about this choice. During these sessions, we explain the key tenets of our UU faith, its history, and the reasons why congregational membership matters. Any one who chooses to may “sign the book” that lists all our members.  Standing Committee then votes to welcome you into membership. There is no required amount of time of attending before officially joining the congregation: some people take the step after a month, others may wait a year or longer. Any member in good standing is eligible to vote at our annual meeting held each June.

How will I know if Sunday services are cancelled due in bad weather?

On rare occasions, Sunday services will be cancelled when severe winter weather makes traveling unsafe. If you have questions about whether services are being held, please call the UU Wellesley Hills office at 781.235.7423 and listen to the voice message there.
