Working for social justice is an integral part of our Learning programs at UU Wellesley. We learn much about ourselves and others as we endeavor to honor our UU values and put our faith into action. Our Religious Education Program aims to help our children and youth better understand the world while they take steps to make a difference in their own lives and their communities. UU Wellesley adults have ventured out of our comfort zones into the larger world, and learned about how others cope with challenges outside our experience. We have traveled to Torocko, Romania to visit our Transylvanian Partner Church and to Burundi, Africa to support an emerging Unitarian congregation there. Service-Learning also gives us the opportunity to learn to work cooperatively, building community while we make a difference together, across generations. Visit our Faith in Action page on this website to learn about many ways to serve and learn at UU Wellesley and beyond!
On a few Sunday mornings each year, children and youth help with getting the church building ready to host homeless families for our Family Promise Metrowest initiative, by transforming classrooms into bedrooms for our guests several times a year, as well as to prepare meals for our ministry with Bristol Lodge.
We offer Service-Learning opportunities for children and youth outside of our Sunday morning exploration and activities. For many years we have held a Service-Learning weekend at Camp Starfish in Rindge, NH, open to the entire congregation. (Click HERE to learn more about this initiative.)
Junior and Senior Youth have enjoyed and been enriched by week-long Service-Learning trips. Click on the links below to see photos and video from previous trips. In 2017, our Senior Youth engaged in Service-Learning as a requirement of their participation in the Coming of Age program at UU Wellesley.
