In May 2000, UU Wellesley voted to become an official Welcoming Congregation, the formal designation for faith communities committed to supporting LGBTQ individuals within the congregation and beyond. A committee focused on LGBTQ issues has been in existence continuously since 1997—educating members, presenting guest speakers, supporting progressive legislation, leading worship and showing documentary movies.
In 2011, UU Wellesley began a program for LGBTQ youth. Enjoying remarkable success, the program spun off to become its own 501(c)(3) organization, OUT MetroWest, in 2014.
In an effort to provide a welcoming gathering space for MetroWest LGBTQ adults, the LGBTQ Interest Group launched Pride Movie Nights in June 2017. LGBTQ individuals and their allies meet once a month for conversation and the viewing of an LGBTQ-themed movie.
